Liverpool ‘reach agreement’ that could be huge for Jurgen Klopp transfer plans
Jurgen Klopp missed out on Liverpool transfer target he wanted before Sadio Mane
Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement with former RB Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl, who was dismissed by the German club at the end of September. And if he does end up moving to Anfield, his arrival could be a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp’s transfer plans.
Eberl is widely regarded as one of the best directors in European football and spent just under two years at the Red Bull Arena following a 13-year stint as Borussia Monchengladbach’s sporting director.
He is known for his ability to get deals over the line and worked with Liverpool over the summer to facilitate the transfers of Dominik Szoboszlai to Anfield and the loan move of Fabio Carvalho in the other direction. But his time at Leipzig ended due to his “failure to commit to the club”.
According to French outlet Sports Zone, Eberl has an agreement in place with Bayern Munich and Liverpool. He is currently observing a period of gardening leave and would prefer to join Bayern. But if a move to the Allianz Arena does not come off, he has given Liverpool his word that he will head to England.

Liverpool were once the cream of the crop in transfer dealings when they had Michael Edwards as their sporting director. The 44-year-old oversaw the transfers of a string of blockbuster stars including Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but left the club last year to start his own consultancy business.
His prodigy Julian Ward stepped up but lasted only a year before departing Anfield by his own volition, with former Wolfsburg transfer chief Jorg Schmadtke penning a one-year deal on Merseyside in the summer. And Eberl could be the man to ultimately build on Edwards’ legacy if he does opt to join the Reds.

With Eberl in the Liverpool camp, Klopp would be confident of securing deals for some of the most talented players in Europe and building a squad that could compete for Champions League and Premier League honours once again. But Bayern Munich may ultimately trump them in the battle for the 50-year-old.
“RB Leipzig have relieved Max Eberl of his duties with immediate effect,” read a statement from RB Leipzig in September as the German’s departure was announced.
“His failure to commit to the club has led to us making this decision. It has nothing to do with the squad’s rebuild or results on the pitch. Sporting director Rouven Schroder will take over. We would like to thank Max for his work and wish him all the best for the future.”
