Liverpool are looking to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in the transfer window this summer and Brighton star Yves Bissouma and Borussia Monchengladbach ace Florian Neuhaus have emerged as top targets. But the Reds have other priorities right now.
Liverpool have prioritised signing Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Fabinho to new contracts this summer over any further transfers.
The Reds have already brought in Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig after Jurgen Klopp made a centre-back a main aim following the injury crisis at Anfield.
But it has been radio silence since their early forage despite the exit of Wijnaldum.
The Dutchman saw his contract expire this month and has signed for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
That has been a major blow to Klopp, who played the former Newcastle star in every Premier League match this season for the Reds.
It means a replacement simply must arrive, with such a critical position now left wide open.
A number of players have been tipped to join including Bissouma and Neuhaus, but Liverpool are in no rush, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
“There is no rush on Liverpool’s end,” he said on his Here We Go podcast.
“There are reports about Yves Bissouma but nothing is going on. It’s the same with Neuhaus. Liverpool want the right opportunity in their hunt for the new Wijnaldum.
“At the moment there is nothing advanced. Their priority is sorting out new contracts for Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk.
“They’re working on Fabinho’s deal. They want to extend the contracts of Alisson and Van Dijk as soon as possible.”
Liverpool are keen to improve upon last season, where they struggled for many months before a late rout saw them finish third in the Premier League.
Despite their last-gasp antics, it had been a disappointing campaign for a number of reasons but the injuries to Van Dijk and Joe Gomez no doubt affected their play.
Regardless, their attack was largely stunted compared to their barnstorming form of the year before.
This season, Klopp is desperate to return Liverpool to the former glories he had achieved with them.
