Liverpool predicted XI for Man Utd FA Cup tie as key man set to miss out
Jurgen Klopp will be missing a key member of his Liverpool side when they take on Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday.
The Reds travel to Old Trafford looking to progress to a fifth-round tie against West Ham United.
Klopp’s side are winless in five Premier League matches, with their only victory in their last six games being the third-round win against Aston Villa.
But they go into Sunday’s game knowing they will be missing one of their most important players.
That is because the muscle strain that ruled captain Jordan Henderson out of the Reds’ midweek defeat by Burnley will again keep him on the sidelines.
Joel Matip returned to the starting line-up to take Henderson’s place at the heart of defence against Burnley and, with Klopp possessing limited defensive options due to injuries, he is expected to continue.
After making two match-saving stops against United last Sunday, it would be a surprise to see Allison dropped, even though Caoimhin Kelleher started in goal for the Reds' third-round defeat of Villa.
Fabinho will also keep his place at centre-back, while Trent Alexander-Arnold’s recent poor form could see him replaced by veteran James Milner.
In midfield, Thiago should be rewarded for his impressive performance against United last week with another start, while Georgino Wijnaldum is also expected to keep his place.
One member of the midfield three who could lose his place though is Shaqiri, as Klopp tries to put a halt to his side’s poor run of results.
If the Liverpool boss did drop Shaqiri, that would open the door for Takumi Minamino to make just his eighth start of the season.
The disappointing loss to Burnley could also result in two casualties up front, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divok Origi failing to impress on Thursday night.
That would mean returns for Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, who both featured as substitutes against the Clarets.
