The impact of the doomed European Super League is still yet to be felt, with governing bodies deciding if any sanctions will be imposed. Liverpool were one of the 12 Founding Members that joined the competition on Sunday night.

However, less than 48 hours later, their membership had been revoked amid a firestorm of criticism and condemnation.

The competition, which would have seen some of Europe’s biggest clubs guaranteed entry every season, would also have provided a huge financial boost.

In total, the clubs were due to share around £3bn per season, with incentives ranging from around £130m-£213m every year.

That would have offered a valuable boost, particularly in the midst of the coronvirus pandemic.

That plan now looks dead in the water, after all but three clubs confirmed they would not be involved in any prospective competition.

The Reds are therefore putting plans in motion, to ensure Jurgen Klopp has the funds to be active in the summer transfer window.

Owners Fenway Sports Group were reluctant to part with big money in January, despite Klopp facing an almighty injury crisis.

Liverpool’s manager will hope to be a lot busier at the end of the season, as they look to close the gap on champions-elect Manchester City.

In order to do that, there may be an element of selling before they buy and Marko Grujic is a player almost certain to depart.

The Serbian was Klopp’s first signing back in 2016, arriving from Red Star Belgrade in a deal worth around £5.5m.

But in more than five years at Anfield, Grujic has played just 16 times in all competitions and has spent much of his time away on loan.

He is currently with Portuguese giants FC Porto, after spending one season with Cardiff City and two in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin.

According to reports in Portugal, Porto are believed to be considering a permanent move for the midfielder after impressing in recent weeks.

O Jogo (via Sport Witness) claim that it is a patience game, with all parties waiting to establish what their respective options are before making a move.

The report does add that the Reds are hoping to double their investment on Grujic, with the belief they can fetch as much as £17m.

Grujic himself is said to be open to a move, but is keen to play in the Champions League and could therefore wait for his loan club to seal their place before committing his long-term future.
