Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been dealt a triple dose of positive injury news as his side gear up for a testing run of fixtures in October. The Reds will surely need to call on peripheral figures as well as nailed-on starters with plenty of domestic action to plough through before the World Cup in November.

By the time Liverpool take to the pitch against Brighton on Saturday, they won’t have played as a team for almost three weeks. A narrow win over Ajax was their last outing on September 13, while disappointing results against Everton and Napoli came before that.

Several of Klopp’s big guns have failed to come up with the goods so far this campaign. He may therefore feel comfortable about turning to some of his fringe stars during a hectic period of games, which should force every team to make the most of squad rotation.

The German’s job may have got a touch easier as pictures show the previously-injured trio of Caoimhin Kelleher, Ibrahima Konate and Calvin Ramsay back in training.

Kelleher, who serves as back-up to Alisson Becker, has been out since picking up a groin injury while on international duty towards the back-end of last season. The Republic of Ireland No 1 has already established himself as a safe pair of hands should Klopp need to call on him, particularly in cup competitions.

Konate is yet to play a single minute this campaign after frustratingly suffering a knee injury during pre-season. The Frenchman’s return will be warmly welcomed by Klopp after making a serious impression last term, and with Virgil van Dijk misfiring he may be called on to steady the ship.

Ramsay was one of Liverpool’s three permanent summer signings, arriving with a back issue after completing a £6.5million move from Aberdeen. The 18-year-old may have expected to be used sparingly during his debut season but, with a comeback on the horizon, he may be drafted in to take some of the pressure off the much-criticised Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds’ hectic nine-game run kicks off at home to the Seagulls on Saturday and the matches will come thick and fast thereafter. A Champions League double-header with Rangers, a daunting trip to Arsenal and a crunch clash with Manchester City are all on the agenda and former Premier League star Bacary Sagna is concerned for their title ambitions.

“I do think Liverpool are the team who could fall out of the top four this season based on the opening seven matches so far, simply because they have dropped quite a few points already,” he told Lord Ping. “Liverpool can’t afford to drop any more points at the moment.

“Now, the league will really go quickly before it breaks for the World Cup. Liverpool don’t want to be in a position where they are a long way behind when the league stops in November. It won’t be easy to restart the season after the World Cup – they need to stay within touching distance of the other teams.”
