Liverpool mocked for Europa League post as new boy Dominik Szoboszlai targeted
Liverpool have been mocked on Twitter following a tweet from UEFA’s official Europa League account. The post included a picture of new signing Dominik Szoboszlai and fans were quick to jump on the fact the Reds won’t be playing top-tier European football this season.
Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League last term despite a spirited end to the campaign. It means they will not be playing Champions League football for the first time since the 2016/17 season.
Jurgen Klopp is aiming to bounce back by signing a new-look midfield. Szoboszlai has followed Alexis Mac Allister to the club, with the pair costing an initial £95million between them.
Fans are delighted with the business so far but, for some, it doesn’t cover for the blow of missing out on the Champions League. The Europa League Twitter account has posted a number of pictures of Liverpool players in recent days.
Last Thursday they posted separate tweets including images of Trent Alexander-Arnold and then Darwin Nunez later on the same day. On Monday, Mohamed Salah was the latest player to be posted.

Tuesday it was the turn of Szoboszlai, with the post captioned: “Soon to star in red…” But fans of rival clubs, as well as Liverpool’s own supporters, were quick to comment.
@TheDonHusam6 wrote: “The admin of this account is mocking it now” followed by crying emojis.
While @AkayMason put: “I just know Liverpool fans hate being associated with this handle,” accompanied with a series of crying with laughter emojis.
It was a familiar theme in the replies to the tweet. @40_40vision tweeted: “The admin of the Europa League Twitter account keeps posting pictures of Liverpool players and it kills me every time.”
@Only1_Matt put: “This admin is loving the idea of LFC being in the #UEL next season”, while @iDiamondRuff wrote: “This Admin tormenting Liverpool fans daily.”

The 23/24 home shirt for Liverpool pays homage to the past of the club, as well as collaborator Nike, with a strong 1970s influence. The iconic red, capped with bold white cuffs and collar really does invoke that classic Liverpool FC style while adding a cool retro touch
Fans were certainly revelling in the fact Liverpool will be in Europe’s second-tier competition. But some Reds supporters were pleading for the Europa League account to stop tweeting.
@yahiamansoor wrote: “Seeing the Europa League account tweet about you is a different kind of pain.” While @jacklfcgill put: “Stop tweeting about us, I can’t hack the constant reminders.”
They weren’t the only ones, with @francoisplateau writing: “Please leave us alone. I’m begging.” @FearGod10001 also wrote: “Just tell me, why are you tormenting us?”
Liverpool will go straight into the group stage of the Europa League. The draw will take place in Nyon on September 1.
