Liverpool icon Kenny Dalglish asks for help as Twitter with 1m followers hacked

Kenny Dalglish was given the perfect present as Liverpool smashed Manchester United 7-0 – but his birthday weekend wasn't all rosy.

The Reds icon had his Twitter account with 967,100 followers hacked on Saturday (March 4) while he was meant to be celebrating turning 72. King Kenny sent a message out to fans via his daughter Lauren's page, asking the social media site for help.

The post read: "Thank you everyone for my birthday wishes! Unfortunately I was hacked and can’t get into my @kennethdalglish account to reply to people individually. Any chance of getting it sorted please? @Twitter @verified @TwitterSupport YNWA Kenny."

Lauren had sent well wishes to her dad earlier in the day, urging those who follow him to not click on any links shared by the hackers with a picture of him looking hard at his phone.

She wrote: "Happy Birthday Dad! With technology skills like this, I can’t believe you’ve been hacked on your birthday! It’s been trickier than expected, but we’ve got great people working on getting you back into your account.

"Today, I’ll share mine with you! Love you! Needless to say, please don’t click on the links that the hackers have posted on Dad’s account.

"We’re working to get everything taken down, but they’ve done a 'proper job' so it’s taking a little longer than anticipated."

Dalglish certainly had a smile back on his face come Sunday (March 5) afternoon. He was in the Anfield stands with son Paul as Jurgen Klopp's side smashed their rivals United for seven.

After the drubbing, Paul uploaded a selfie of them grinning with the caption: "No better way to spend his birthday weekend than watching the red men score '7' against Utd."

Another of Dalglish's offspring, daughter Kelly Cates, was also in attendance as she was hosting Sky Sports' coverage of the match – and she signed off with a hilarious dig at United legend Gary Neville.
