Liverpool flop Andy Carroll wanted by Wolves if Diego Costa move fails

Wolves are lining up a sensational move for Andy Carroll after their pursuit of Diego Costa came to a halt, according to reports.

Bruno Large tried to bring the former Chelsea striker to Molineux but the move fell apart on Tuesday as he was denied a work permit.

And though the Midlands side are set to appeal the ruling the Home Office made, they have also put Carroll on alert in case they are snubbed again.

Carroll, who last played for West Brom, is currently a free agent and among the list of potential alternatives to Costa, reports The Telegraph.

With the Baggies, he found the back of the net three times in 15 outings, having joined them on a free transfer from Reading, who he played eight times for.

The England international joined the Baggies on a free transfer in January from fellow Championship side Reading, whom he made a paltry eight appearances for.

Wolves are on the hunt to sign a new forward following the injury to new signing Sasa Kaladjzic.

The £15.4million man joined from Stuttgart but suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in his debut game for Wolves against Southampton on Saturday.

After the match, Wolves released a statement which read: "Sasa felt a pain in his knee late in the first-half against Southampton.

"Unfortunately, scans reveal an anterior cruciate injury and he will see a knee specialist tomorrow.

"We now need to support Sasa in his recovery and further updates will follow."

The Austrian took to social media to express his dismay at the news. “I don‘t know how I should start,” he wrote. "Everything in the last couple of days went really fast and obviously I‘m speechless about what happened yesterday.

“I was hoping on posting my first picture here with a smile on my face celebrating with my new teammates our first win of this season.

“Unfortunately, I won‘t be helping the team in the next months but I will work hard to be back as soon as possible and even stronger than before. Thank you for all the messages, it means a lot to me.”
