Liverpool fans in meltdown as title and quadruple dreams ‘die’ after Spurs draw
Liverpool fans have gone into meltdown after seeing their title and quadruple hopes fade with a draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night.
Jurgen Klopp's side limped to a 1-1 draw at Anfield as Spurs put a serious dent in Liverpool's hopes of winning an unprecedented quadruple this season. The result leaves the Reds top of the table but title rivals Manchester City are level on points with them and have a game in hand against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Following the match, Liverpool supporters flocked to social media to react to the result and the impact it will have on their season.
One fan tweeted: “Quadruple dream finally dies now I can unclench.” Whilst another added: “Now we've blown the title…thanks to whoever was passing every ball to Salah.”
A third Liverpool supporter wrote: “Salah is finished, please sell him," with another adding: “Focus on Champions League and FA Cup now.”
Another fan criticised Trent Alexander-Arnold's performance as they tweeted: “Proper disappointing that! Trent was poor tonight and the whole team looked tired. Something wasn’t right! That might be it for the title race! Onto the next one!”
One other fan simply added: “RIP league hopes, can't see City dropping points now.”
How many trophies will Liverpool win this season? Let us know in the comments section below.
City host Newcastle on Sunday and will go three points clear at the top of the table with a victory, with just three matches remaining in the season.
Liverpool's next fixture comes on Tuesday night when they travel to face Aston Villa, hoping to bounce back from dropping points against Spurs.
Heung-Min Son had opened the scoring for the visitors just over 10 minutes into the second half before Luis Diaz's deflected strike levelled the scores and rescued a point for the Reds.
Klopp's team have already won the League Cup this season and are preparing to take part in both the FA Cup and Champions League finals later this month.
If they can win both those finals and pip City to the title then they would become the first English club to win the quadruple in a single season.
