Liverpool fans asking for Champions League tickets refunds after Paris carnage

Liverpool fans have asked for their Champions League final tickets to be refunded after chaotic scenes ruined their experience.

Reds supporters took a trip to the Stade de France last month where they had hoped to enjoy the Champions League final clash against Real Madrid. But poor organisation saw fans queue for hours outside the stadium before disgraceful scenes unfolded where police needlessly used tear gas on them and local gangs targeted the travelling support.

The final was delayed by more than 30 minutes, which UEFA then incorrectly blamed on fans’ late arrivals. The governing body has since performed a huge U-turn, apologising for the woeful experience while offering refunds to the 2,700 ticket holders who did not get into the ground.

Fans have now taken it upon themselves to go one step further and claim a refund, even if they were able to eventually watch the match inside the stadium. One fan took to Twitter to post a UEFA link before encouraging their fellow Reds to ask for a refund.

Another Liverpool supporter quote-tweeted it, writing: “For anyone who attended last Saturdays’ Champions league Final – I would recommend getting a refund. I know the monetary value might not help some people overcome their experiences but hopefully this will make the powers that be acknowledge what they have done wrong.”

It comes after UEFA admitted: "No football fan should be put in that situation, and it must not happen again.

"Uefa wishes to sincerely apologise to all spectators who had to experience or witness frightening and distressing events in the build-up to the Uefa Champions League final at the Stade de France on 28 May 2022 in Paris, on a night which should have been a celebration of European club football."

It is unknown whether UEFA will back down once more and refund thousands of Liverpool fans who had their experience tarnished. However, there is precedent with regards to the Euro 2020 final, where fans were reportedly able to receive full refunds after complaining about the trouble they experienced at Wembley.
