Liverpool are eyeing a move for Sergio Ramos on a free transfer at the end of the season.

That is despite his feud with Mohamed Salah, who was infamously injured by the Real Madrid star in the 2018 Champions League final.

The Reds are looking to bolster their backline after injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

But Jurgen Klopp is happy to wait until the summer to secure his preferred signing.

January is notoriously difficult to clinch deals and the Covid-19 crisis has only made matters worse.

Meanwhile, in Spain, Real Madrid have ran into problems with club captain Ramos over a new contract.

The 34-year-old has reportedly rejected a one-year deal and believes he deserves longer terms.

However, Real are not willing to budge from their policy of offering over-30s one-year contracts.

It has led to a stalemate that will currently see Ramos depart the Bernabeu at the end of the season while he is free to speak to foreign clubs over a pre-contract agreement.

According to El Chiringuito, Liverpool are interested in the Spain international and are prepared to offer him the terms he desires.

That would be a huge shock to the footballing world, especially considering the vilification of Ramos in Liverpool after his challenge on Salah in the 2018 Champions League final.

The Egypt international was a huge success story that season having joined from Roma the summer previous.

His goals fired Liverpool to the brink of European glory but within the opening exchanges of the finale, he was off injured with a dislocated shoulder.

It came about after a coming together with Ramos, for which the Spaniard was largely blamed.

The injury also had an impact on Salah's World Cup campaign with Egypt in Russia, where they lost all three of their group stage matches.
