Liverpool defender wants another loan move despite Jurgen Klopp’s injury crisis

Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg wants to go out on loan again instead of remaining at Anfield in case of another injury crisis.

Van den Berg, a £1.3million signing from Dutch side PEC Zwolle in 2019, has been on loan at Preston North End since February.

The 19-year-old has gained plenty of experience at Deepdale, making 16 appearances in total and helping the Championship outfit to five clean sheets in their final six matches of the season.

Despite the lack of cover at Anfield this season following injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, Van den Berg is ready to take his chance away from Merseyside again next term.

Speaking exclusively to the Liverpool Echo, the Dutchman said: “I don’t really know where I will be in the summer. I want to go on loan again.

“That’s what I’d prefer. I will see, there is no rush. I have a nice little break to think about it.

“I want to be out on loan in the summer and to gain more experience so I can be ready when I come back to Liverpool to play in the first team.

“I have to wait and see what the plan is and see what the chances are for me to go on loan again.

“I have grown a lot during my time here and during the whole year. I have felt that I have become stronger and more experienced here. My time at Preston has really helped. We will see.

Could Van den Berg return to Preston after impressing under caretaker boss Frankie McAvoy, who now holds the reins on a permanent basis? The defender certainly hasn’t ruled it out.

“Looking to next season, I want to go on loan again,” he said. “I want to play again and hopefully play more than I have this season.
