Liverpool are reportedly close to offloading striker Divock Origi in January. Jurgen Klopp no longer sees the Belgian as a crucial member of his squad, and Lens are believed to be willing to pay £10million for him.

Origi has been at Liverpool since 2015, and has scored 35 goals in 159 appearances in all competitions.

But the 26-year-old has never forced his way into regular first-team contention at Anfield, and the club were open to offers for him in the summer.

However, no substantial enquiries came, prompting Jurgen Klopp to directly address the quality of his player.

“People forget how good he is,” Klopp told BT Sport earlier this season. “It’s difficult to get in this team.

“In the summer transfer window we all thought there would be a proper offer, but obviously people don’t watch football enough!”

Klopp’s comments amounted to the Liverpool boss encouraging January bids, according to former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

“If Jurgen Klopp thinks he’s a fantastic striker and is surprised why there is no offers for him, why does he not use him more?” Robinson told Football Insider.

“It sounds very much like he is putting him in the shop window to me. I think he is a good impact substitute but he is not consistent enough to start games regularly.

“He has not managed to break into that front three like Diogo Jota has in the past 12 months. Jota has staked his claim as a regular starter. Origi has failed to do that. He has never been good enough to break into that front three as a starter.

“It looks to me as if he is putting him in the shop window. He is basically asking someone to come and buy him.”

According to reports, Lens are now ready to bid for Origi, with the Ligue 1 club ready to bid £10m in January.

That cash would be a helpful boost to Liverpool’s transfer kitty, with the club keen to add to their ranks in January.

Ibrahima Konate was the only significant summer arrival to the club, joining from RB Leipzig, and Klopp is known to want fresh faces in his squad.

Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday leaves them level at the top of the table with Chelsea after five wins and a draw at the start of the campaign.

“I think we can’t stop now, but we are doing a really good start to the season,” goalkeeper Alisson Becker said.

“The most difficult moment in the season for us is the winter, so there is a long way until the end of the Premier League.

“We need to keep working hard and having the same mentality and just keep on going.”
