West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen is the type of player Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would “love”, according to former Chelsea forward and Reds fan Tony Cascarino. Bowen has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the recent past. And Cascarino believes he would be the ideal long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah at Anfield.

Bowen has six goals and seven assists to his name in 23 Premier League appearances for West Ham so far this season.

He has already levelled the 13 goal contributions he registered in the English top flight last term.

Salah’s contract at Liverpool is set to expire in the summer of 2023.

The Egyptian has stated he wants to extend his stay but Cascarino says a plan must be in place if that is not the case.

And he believes Bowen fits the profile of player Klopp looks for when he is targeting additions to his attack.

“Klopp seems to love players that are really tenacious and will never give up and will chase,” Cascarino said on talkSPORT.

“They don’t have to be technically absolutely brilliant, because Mane’s not, they’re good, but they’re not technical geniuses like when you look at Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.

“They’re not like that, but they’re all tenacious, he really loves that.

“I actually thought, if we lost Mo Salah, who could we logically go after?

“Well, the lad Bowen at West Ham ticks all those boxes because he’s tenacious, he chases everything and is decent technically, but not extraordinary.

“I keep thinking who would fit into that Liverpool frontline? Because Klopp loves those kinds of players in wide areas, who will chase and hassle players and will do the ugly things for their team, and will always get chances.”

Bowen’s contract at West Ham does not expire until the summer of 2025.

So the Hammers would likely demand a big fee for the former Hull star.

His manager David Moyes believes Bowen deserves a first call-up to the senior England squad.

“The biggest thing is that he’s added assists and he’s beginning to find the net again,” Moyes said earlier this month.

“When you look at the competition for England; Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Jadon Sancho – it’s a decision for Gareth Southgate.

“But he’s getting closer to people saying we should have a look at him and see what he can do.

“I don’t think he’ll be too far away, but the biggest thing is to keep playing well for West Ham.”
