English giants Liverpool, Manchester United and City are locked in a battle to sign Scottish sensation Rory Wilson.
All three have been keeping close tabs on Wilson, who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Europe. The Rangers striker has put the Champions League rivals on red alert – along with Newcastle and Leeds – after letting it be known he wants to leave the Scottish champions.
Rangers have offered the 16-year-old his first professional contract. But Wilson is set to reject it after deciding he wants to emulate Billy Gilmour and turn professional in England instead. Scouts from United and City watched Wilson score twice for Scotland U17s in a 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic this week.
Wilson has plundered an astonishing 40 goals this season for the Rangers youth team. Whichever club manages to land him is expected to have to shell out around £300,000 in compensation.
Scouts from England’s leading clubs are expected to watch him in action again on Saturday when Wilson lines up for Scotland U17s against their German counterparts. Wilson has already played for Rangers Colts in the Lowland League as well as in the UEFA Youth League.
