Lionel Messi’s World Cup hotel room to be transformed into museum in Qatar

Lionel Messi's Qatar hotel room could be turned into a museum following his World Cup heroics as he took home the Golden Ball while firing Argentina to glory.

The 35-year-old, who may well have cemented his status as the greatest player of all time following Argentina's win over France on penalties, stayed in room B201 at the Qatar University in Doha.

According to journalist Achraf Ben Ayad, Messi's room, which he shared with Sergio Aguero towards the end of the tournament, will be turned into a small museum.

Fans of Messi will be hoping a potential statue of their hero will be better than some past efforts, including a 2022 World Cup likeness that wasn't much of a likeness at all.

The museum might well give visitors an insight into how Messi spent his down time while dragging Argentina into the final against France which they won on penalties.

In one of football's greatest ever matches, Messi scored twice to bring his overall World Cup goal involvements to 21, while becoming the only player to win the Golden Ball twice.

Messi said after Argentina lifted a third World Cup after 1978 and 1986: "It's crazy that it happened this way. I wanted it very much.

"I knew that God was going to give it to me, I had a feeling that it was going to be this way. Now to enjoy.

"Look at this cup, it’s beautiful. We suffered a lot but we made it. We can’t wait to be in Argentina and to see how crazy it’s going to be.

"This was the trophy I have wanted all of my life. This was my dream since childhood."

Messi insisted after the triumph he would continue to play for Argentina in their new status as world champions, with more questions over his club career.

Despite links with Inter Miami and a Barcelona return, Messi is said to be in talks over extending his PSG deal, which expires in the summer.
