Lionel Messi begins talks over new £30million-a-season football contract
Lionel Messi is set to put pen to paper on a new deal at PSG after officially opening talks with the club over an extension.
The Argentine megastar, who captained his country to World Cup glory a few weeks ago, has less than six months remaining on his current deal and has been heavily linked with a move to MLS in recent months, but now looks as if he's going to extend his stay in Paris.
Speaking to reporters ahead of their Ligue 1 clash with Angers on Wednesday, PSG boss Christophe Galtier confirmed that talks between player and club were well underway.

"There are discussions, the management of the club have exchanged with Leo on the subject of an extension – I don’t know at what stage it is at," the Frenchman said.
"Leo seems to me happy to be in Paris."
Reports emerged last month that Messi had verbally agreed to sign a new deal at PSG, but with a number of clubs – including David Beckham's Inter Miami – pushing hard to sign him, nothing was set in stone.

Messi, 35, is understood to be earning £30m-a-year at the Parc des Princes, and it remains to be seen whether his salary will change if he does indeed sign an extension.
Following an underwhelming first season in France, Messi exploded into life at the start of his second campaign. He registered 17 goal involvements in 13 Ligue 1 matches, and took his scintillating form into Qatar, inspiring Argentina to their first World Cup victory since 1986, and winning a record-breaking second World Cup Golden Ball award.
