Ligue 1 club fined £22k every game due to manager’s lack of qualifications

French side Stade de Reims are being fined £22,000 every time they play – as their new boss doesn't have a UEFA Pro Licence.

According to Ligue 1 rules, all managers must possess a UEFA Pro License if they are to have the top job at a club. However, 30-year-old Will Still is still studying for his license – which means Reims are falling foul of the rule each week.

Still, who was born in Belgium to British parents, is the youngest manager in all of the top five leagues in Europe. He was thrust into the limelight in October, when he was promoted into the hot seat after Óscar was fired.

Still played hours-upon-hours of Football Manager – a simulation computer game that is based around football management – as a youngster. And the Reims boss has cited this as his route in football management.

Still left Belgium for Preston as a 17-year-old to take his first steps into football as an academy coach. However, he moved back to the continent for a spate of assistant jobs. Still moved to France with Reims for his second spell at the club over the summer, before getting the top job.

Still joked about the situation when speaking to the Daily Mail: "Well, it's been, sort of, negotiated. The club said: 'We're ready to invest in your career. just as long as you keep winning!'"

The Englishman has been a breath of fresh air for the French side, and they have only lost once since he took over, seeing them rocket up the table. Still recently masterminded a draw against PSG's assortment of megastars.
