Leicester are braced for renewed interest in Harvey Barnes in the coming days with Newcastle preparing a fresh move for the winger.

The Magpies enquired about Barnes last summer only to be put off by Leicester’s £60million valuation. But the price tag is expected to be lower following Leicester’s relegation with James Maddison’s £40m move to Tottenham providing a benchmark.

Barnes has also been high on the list of both West Ham and Aston Villa and was also on Tottenham’s radar, but Mail Sport understands Newcastle have been following the situation closely and are ready to step up a gear.

Barnes scored 13 goals from wide in a struggling team last term and is proven at this level, playing a key role in the Leicester teams who finished fifth in 2020 and 2021, as well as winning the FA Cup in 2021 and reaching the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League a year later.

The 25-year-old will hope to add to his single England cap in the build-up to Euro 2024.

Championship side Leicester City  are braced for renewed interest in Harvey Barnes

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle will step up their interest after previously being putt og by price tag

James Maddison’s £40m move to Tottenham is providing a benchmark for Barnes’ valuation

Dropping into the Championship placed extra pressure on Leicester to sell their star assets given the reduction in television revenue, parachute payments notwithstanding.

Maddison and Barnes were comfortably the Foxes’ best two attackers last season but are unlikely to be the only players to leave, with Kelechi Iheanacho, Timothy Castagne, Wilfried Ndidi, Patson Daka, Jannik Vestergaard and Boubakary Soumare among those who could also depart.

Leicester have already signed Conor Coady and Harry Winks from Wolves and Tottenham respectively and new boss Enzo Maresca needs many more players with the start of the Championship campaign less than a month away.
