Leeds vs Southampton LIVE: Team news, line-ups and more ahead of Premier League fixture tonight

Marcelo Bielsa’s inconsistent Leeds United team welcome a faltering Southampton fc side to Elland Road in the Premier League this evening.

The hosts are looking to bounce back from two straight losses in the top flight, having been beaten 1-0 by Wolves last time out after a 4-2 defeat by Arsenal. Both of those results came on the road and – though Bielsa’s players will have no fans to roar them on – Leeds will hope to reverse their fortunes now that they are back on home turf. Southampton, meanwhile, recorded an encouraging 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea in their last outing to snap a club-record six-game losing streak in the Premier League. A 9-0 demolition by Manchester United came within that dismal run of results, and Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men will be keen to record their first win in the division since 4 January – when they beat champions Liverpool – to finally put that loss behind them.

Leeds enter tonight’s fixture in 12th place in the Premier League on 32 points, and 14th-placed Southampton – who have 30 points – could leapfrog their opponents with a victory this evening. Follow live updates from Leeds vs Southampton in the Premier League below.

One of Leeds’ most famous victories, when they demolished Southampton 7-0 in 1972.

Top scorers:

Leeds – Patrick Bamford (12)

Southampton – Danny Ings (9)

Form guide:

Leeds don’t come into this clash in the best of form. They’ve lost three of their last four games in the Premier League.

Southampton meanwhile are in a terrible spell, frankly, having not won a game of league football since early December.

Leeds have the won the lion’s share of games between these two sides.

The Yorkshire outfit stand on 45 victories from 92 games, with 20 draws and 27 Southampton wins.

The last game between the pair in the Premier League came in January 2004, when Southampton earned a 2-1 win.

Brett Ormerod and Kevin Phillips both got on the scoresheet that day for The Saints.

Leeds of course would get relegated that season, and Southampton would join them in the second tier a year later.

This is the first meeting between these two sides, in any competition, since October 2012.

The pair last clashed in the League Cup, with Leeds winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Michael Tonge, El Hadji Diouf and Luciano Becchio.
