Leeds trio ‘expected to leave’ after relegation as contract clause emerges
Sam Allardyce urges ‘police to do a lot more’ about social media abuse
Leeds United interim boss Sam Allardyce could wave goodbye to three talented players if he takes the job at Elland Road on a permanent basis. A relegation clause in Brenden Aaronson’s contract could make him the first to go, with two others also expected to head for the exits instead of tumbling down to the Championship.
Even a win would not have been enough for Allardyce on Sunday, with Everton’s victory over Bournemouth sending Leeds down alongside Southampton and Leicester City. As it happened, the Whites came nowhere near as Tottenham romped to a 4-1 victory.
Preparing for a season in the second tier for the first time since 2019/20, Leeds’ squad is set to be torn apart as their most coveted stars search for ways to remain at the top level. Aaronson is among them, and having signed in a £25million move from RB Salzburg last summer, he could be on his way out of Elland Road just 12 months later.
According to The Athletic, he has a relegation release clause in his contract which those associated with the player expect to be triggered.

The 22-year-old featured in 36 Premier League games for Leeds this term, but he was broadly disappointing with only four goal contributions. Although the fee associated with the clause is unknown, the United States international is sure to retain plenty of suitors.
One player almost certain to be following Aaronson out of Leeds is Weston McKennie. The central midfielder signed on loan from Juventus in January, and although the Whites are thought to have a permanent buy option, reports indicate that it won’t be triggered.

McKennie’s father effectively confirmed that a line would be drawn under the affair on Sunday by wishing Leeds the best of luck for the future, while also hitting out at those who aimed cruel chants at his son from the terraces against Spurs.
The American exodus may not stop there as Tyler Adams is reportedly set to depart as well. The 24-year-old has Champions League experience with RB Leipzig, from whom he signed last summer, and relegation to the Championship makes it likely that his stint at Leeds will not last much longer.
While the prospect of going into next campaign’s Championship promotion push without Aaronson, McKennie and Adams would only make the mission that much harder, Allardyce claims to already be aware of the notion that a huge task lies ahead.
It is currently unclear whether the former England boss will take the reins at Elland Road on a permanent basis, with his four-match interim stint failing to yield a single victory.
