Leeds told they’re ‘doomed’ as Allardyce makes ‘Pep, Klopp & Arteta’ comparison

Some Leeds United fans already fear the appointment of Sam Allardyce is ‘doomed’ after he boldly claimed he was on the same level as the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

The veteran boss has been jettisoned in for the final four games of the season in a desperate attempt to keep the Elland Road club in the Premier League. The former Bolton, Newcastle and West Brom boss is accustomed to firing fighting in the Premier League, having saved numerous clubs from the drop. However, given the timescale involved, this is arguably his sternest challenge yet.

Allardyce set his stall out in a punchy press conference as he was unveiled by Leeds. One of his most eye-catching comments was the claim that no Premier League boss has no more expertise than him.

He said: “I might be 68 and old, but there’s nobody ahead of me in football terms. Not Pep, not Klopp, not Arteta.

“It’s all there with me. They do what they do, I do what I do. In terms of knowledge and depth of knowledge, I’m up there with them. I’m not saying I’m better than them, but certainly as good as they are.”

The comments drew scorn from both Leeds fans and supporters of other clubs. One Leeds follower simply tweeted: “This appointment is doomed isn't it?”

Another replied: “Highly likely, but sod it, I'm all in!”

A third added: “Literally thought “he’s gone by Saturday” as soon as he said that he’s up there with those other managers.”

Some fans defended Allardyce’s comments, with one saying: “In fairness he was one of the first to use technology to improve performance! He also managed some world class stars at Bolton!”

Alluding to his first game in charge, against Manchester City on Saturday, another added: “Take a point off Pep when you have the opportunity.”

Meanwhile, one said: “I agree. Managers like Roy Hodgson, Big Sam have seen it all and yet get disrespected. They may not be winners but they are like very wise uncles who have seen it all."
