Klopp texted Guardiola and one Man City star after Premier League title win

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has already passed on his congratulations to rivals Manchester City after they clinched the Premier League last night.

Manchester United inadvertently gifted neighbours City the title after playing a weakened team, and losing, against Leicester at Old Trafford.

The win means the Premier League trophy moves back to familiar territory in Greater Manchester from Merseyside.

In the spirit of the game, Klopp contacted his opposite number at City, congratulating Pep Guardiola on his third title in four years.

The Red boss also passed on his congratulations to City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who played under Klopp for four years at Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow night’s match against United, Klopp said: “Great achievement, congratulations. I texted Pep last night, already texted Ilkay obviously, really well done.

“Very difficult year for the whole world and for football teams as well.

“What they achieved so far in this year is exceptional.”

The 53-year-old admitted his side hadn’t been their best this year but, despite referring to referring to Guardiola as the ‘best manager in the world’, says City are beatable.

“Having won titles in the past, and now five in 10 years, I think it's always like this when you bring in financial sources and football knowledge you have a good chance to create something special,” he said.

“That's obviously the case, an incredible squad and the best manager in the world.

“That makes it a good recipe, it's always a joy to play against them because it's a massive challenge.

“You can beat them but you have to be at your absolute top to do so.”

Klopp will turn his attention to tomorrow’s clash with rivals United, who will likely be back at full strength having rested a significant number of players against Leicester yesterday.

The Foxes' victory leaves the Reds seven points adrift of fourth with a game in hand, so Klopp will travel to Old Trafford seeing it as a must-win fixture to keep the club's Champions League hopes alive.
