Klopp insists Liverpool transfers discussed daily but signings are not up to him

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reiterated that he is not in control of transfers at Anfield.

Supporters have been crying out for short-term defensive reinforcement with both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez on the sidelines, despite Joel Matip returning against Burnley.

Jamie Carragher said it would be ‘inconceivable’ for the club not to be looking at potential additions in that area, stating that it could cost his former side the title.

Following their shock home defeat to Sean Dyche’s side on Thursday, Klopp has once again insisted that he will not have the final say on any incoming deals this month.

Immediately after their loss, he said: “These decisions are not my decisions. If somebody thinks we should do something [they will decide].

“I cannot decide if we do something in the transfer window or not, that must be clear. But that’s not something I’m thinking about.

“It’s just we can, with this group, play much better football – that’s my concern, that’s what I’m thinking about.”

Adding in his press conference on Friday afternoon "Of course someone else is making the decisions, it was always like this. The situation we discuss on a daily basis.

“Could we improve something or not? I don't make these decisions, I never did. Is that news?

“I don't want to confuse anyone. I just said what I said. Hopefully we can clarify it now.”

Carragher said earlier this month: “In August, my fear was that a setback for one of the front three might see them fall back into the pack.

“The club addressed that with the signing of Diogo Jota. Now my concern is focused on their defensive issues.

"The injury to Van Dijk alone will cost Liverpool between nine and 12 points over the course of this season.

“Although Fabinho has proved a fantastic deputy at the back, Joel Matip’s ongoing problems means, to me at least, that it is inconceivable that Liverpool will not sign another centre-half at the earliest opportunity.”
