Jurgen Klopp has branded the Everton fan that threw a bottle at him "an idiot" after fearing that it was initially a glass bottle that was aimed at him.
It came after Conor Coady scored, though the goal was ruled out for offside moments later in the Merseyside derby which ended up 0-0. At Goodison Park, there was a typically boisterous atmosphere but one supporter decided to take it too far.
After the missile was thrown at the Liverpool manager, play was temporarily halted and Klopp has now explained what happened. “I think it hit, I’m not sure, the fourth official,” he said.

“We were pretty surprised, it was a proper bottle. Some idiot had an idea but what can I say. Nobody knows who it was, I think.
“But when I look back, the people made sure I understood that it was not as bad as it looked. I thought it was a glass bottle but it was not. I saw it now because it's still at the 'crime scene'.
"No, no, it was a plastic bottle. In the moment it looked like a glass bottle, that would have been really dangerous but it was a plastic bottle."
Both goalkeepers proved crucial in the 0-0, making some brilliant saves to keep either side from scoring. Jordan Pickford won the player of the match award while Allison looked unflappable throughout.
"After Wednesday [against Newcastle ] it was really tough," Klopp added, speaking to Match of the Day. "These games are rarely for people who love the most beautiful football, because both teams have to fight like crazy. It was just super intense. We created a lot of chances and especially with the timing of our last goal [on Wednesday], it feels like we lost two points.
"The best moments they had were from counter-attacks after we were in their box. Our positioning for the second ball wasn't great. The situation we're in right now is not a dream. It’s good that players are coming back, but we have to make sure we use them in the right manner."
