Kieran Trippier has reportedly told England team mates that he wants to join Manchester United this summer.

The 30-year-old right-back has two years left on his current deal with Atletico Madrid and is keen on a Premier League return.

United hold a long-standing interest in Trippier having tried to sign him in January until he was suspended for a breach of betting regulations.

Now it appears the desire for a move is mutual, with the Daily Mirror reporting Trippier has ‘let slip’ to one of his Three Lions colleagues that he is ‘open’ to a summer move to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the defender to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who could be deployed as an auxiliary centre-half next season.

Acquiring Trippier might not be easy, with Atletico set to demand a fee of between £15million and £20million for the England international.

The La Liga champions don’t want to lose the defender, whose defensive displays were an integral part of their success last season.

He made 35 appearances for Diego Simeone’s men in total and played every minute of their final five matches as they pipped Barcelona and Real Madrid to win their first Spanish title since 2014.

However, despite their championship success, Atletico may still be required to offload players this summer.

The Covid-19 crisis has hit football’s finances hard across Europe and the Spanish giants are no different.

Trippier could be one of those who leaves, with interest from United representing a chance for him to move home.
