Kid, 16, becomes Carabao Cup’s youngest scorer and almost had another record too
Sunderland youngster Chris Rigg became the Carabao Cup's youngest-ever scorer in their defeat to Crewe – and was nearly the FA Cup's too.
The 16-year-old, who celebrated his birthday in June, netted an equaliser for the Championship Black Cats on Tuesday (August 8) night against their League Two opponents, who had taken the lead through Luke Offord.
In doing so he made history in the competition and for his club, becoming their youngest scorer too. It comes months after he almost did the same in the FA Cup.
Rigg looked to have found the winner in their fourth-round tie against Fulham last season after coming on as a substitute in the dying embers of the clash at Craven Cottage.

He would've been the first 15-year-old to ever score an FA Cup goal, but it was ruled out for an offside in the build up and Sunderland had to settle for a draw before they went on to lose the replay 3-2 on home turf.
The highly-rated midfielder, who has been tracked by a number of Premier League clubs including Newcastle in the past, looks set to play a more prominent part in Tony Mowbray's first-team set-up this season.

Speaking to the club's media team after Crewe emerged victorious in the penalty shootout, Rigg said: "Feels good obviously. Not long been in the squad as a rotation player, just doing me job for the team really.
"Unlucky with the result, hopefully we go to Preston and get a win. The lads have been great, nothing but praises for them, for the staff.
"Hopefully I kick on later in the season with a few more goals. Get a good place in the league and maybe be a starter next season, that’s my goal."
