Juventus 'working on Ramsey and Rabiot sales to fund Pogba's return'

Juventus ‘working on selling Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot to free up funds for Paul Pogba’s return’ amid links of a shock Liverpool move for former Arsenal star

  • Juventus are said to be looking at signing Paul Pogba and Manuel Locatelli
  • The Serie A side however need transfer sales to fund moves for the duo
  • Reports in Italy claim the club are frustrated with Aaron Ramsey’s injuries
  • Adrien Rabiot is also seen as someone who could attract a significant offer

Juventus are working on the sales of midfield duo Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot to fund the return of Paul Pogba, according to reports in Italy.

The Serie A champions have been linked with a move for the Manchester United midfielder, whose contract expires next summer, while Sassuolo’s midfielder Manuel Locatelli remains high on their summer wish list.

But Calciomercato.com claim Juventus will need to raise funds through player sales to bring in the duo, and Ramsey and Rabiot are reportedly seen as those which could achieve this most efficiently.

The club are looking to raise money to fund a move for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba

The current midfield pair in Andrea Pirlo’s squad earn just shy of £6million (€7m) net a season and the club have become impatient with Ramsey’s inconsistency and injuries given his wages in the region of £400,000 per week.

The 30-year-old Welshman has had to miss the latest round of international fixtures due to a thigh issue, the fourth fitness problem he has suffered this campaign, and that has reportedly been enough for Juve to look at finding an exit for him.

The Italian outlet believes former Arsenal star Ramsey could make a return to the Premier League, with Crystal Palace interested, while West Ham would prove to be an attractive proposition should they qualify for Europe.

The news about Ramsey – who has started just 12 of the club’s 27 games this term – comes just a couple of days after he was linked by the same outlet with a move to Liverpool, who look set to lose Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer.

Rabiot meanwhile is seen as a key component of Pirlo’s side, but the report adds Juventus would be tempted by the right offer with Manchester City and Barcelona reportedly lurking.

Ramsey joined Juventus on a free transfer – after 11 years in north London – in 2019, in the same summer as Rabiot also moved to Turin after leaving Paris Saint-Germain for nothing.

But despite the financial benefit, Pirlo is finding it harder and harder to justify Ramsey’s absences through injury and he is is seen as a potential departure come the summer.

Boss Andrea Pirlo has struggled to defend Ramsey and his injury record in recent weeks

‘He has physical problems and is unable to get continuity to his performances because he has to stop every two or three games,’ said the Juve boss earlier this month.

‘In the past, he has had major problems that have kept him away from the pitch for months.

‘He is precious because he knows how to make the team play well and he plays well. He has only this physical weakness that forces him to stay out every now and then.’

Last month, Juventus announced losses of £99m for the first half of the season and their dismal campaign, in which they find themselves 10 points off leaders Inter in Serie A, is set to cause wholesale changes.
