Jurgen Klopp says 'world-class' Diogo Jota can play four positions
Jurgen Klopp claims ‘world-class’ Diogo Jota can play FOUR positions as he labels Liverpool forward’s new long-term contract at Anfield ‘brilliant news’
- Diogo Jota has signed a new five-year contract that will keep him at Liverpool
- The 25-year-old scored 21 times in all competitions for the Reds last campaign
- The Portuguese international has impressed since his arrival from Wolves
Liverpool bosss Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Diogo Jota after the Portuguese forward signed a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2027.
The 25-year-old has been rewarded with a new five-year deal for his fine form since joining from Wolves back in 2020.
Reacting to the Portuguese star’s new deal, Klopp said: ‘What Diogo has brought to this team and this club since he arrived is there for all to see, so it is really good news that he has signed a new contract. Brilliant, brilliant news, I would say.’

‘His qualities are obvious. He scores goals – not a bad quality – he works unbelievably hard for the team, his pressing and counter-pressing are on an unbelievable level.
‘He can play in all of our attacking roles and he has an incredible attitude. Not a bad package. Not bad at all.’
Jota netted 21 times in all competitions for the Reds last season, but he will face stiff competition for a place this term following the arrival of Darwin Nunez from Benfica.

The Portugal international also played a vital role in helping Jurgen Klopp’s side win both the FA Cup and Carabo Cup last season, while they missed out on the Premier League title by just one point.
‘Well, [I’m] really proud, I have to say,’ Jota told Liverpool’s website after signing his new contract.
‘Obviously since I arrived two years ago I established myself as an important player in this team – that’s what I wanted from the beginning.
Jota has scored 34 goals in 85 appearances since joining Liverpool from Wolves back in 2020
‘Now, signing a new long-term deal, it’s obviously from the club’s perspective proof of the belief in myself as a player. For me, obviously it’s really good to establish I’ll be here for a while.
‘So, the beginning of a new season, let’s do it.’
Jota, who has scored 34 goals in 85 appearances since joining Liverpool, has not featured in Liverpool’s pre-season matches due to a hamstring injury.
The forward is expected to miss out on Saturday’s Premier League opener on Saturday at newly-promoted Fulham.
