Jurgen Klopp criticises Roman Abramovich decision to sack Frank Lampard
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has criticised Roman Abramovich’s lack of patience and the ‘harsh’ decision to sack Frank Lampard as Chelsea boss this week.
Lampard was dismissed by the Blues on Monday morning after a number of poor performances and results in the Premier League left them ninth in the table, dropping to 10th after Tuesday’s fixtures.
The Chelsea legend had only been in charge for 18 months and had enjoyed a solid first season as manager at Stamford Bridge, but the owner of the club had seen enough after just two wins in his last eight league games.
Thomas Tuchel has come in to replace Lampard, a more experienced and highly rated coach, but Klopp believes the decision to dismiss the Englishman was taken too early and was harsh.
‘That’s a really tough one, to be honest, I think that Chelsea did an incredible job in the transfer market this summer and brought in good players and things like this need time, that’s completely normal,’ Klopp told a press conference on Wednesday.
‘It’s really harsh to make a decision that early but obviously Mr Abramovich gives you some chances with money, players, whatever but is not the most patient person in the world, obviously.’
Klopp has particular sympathy for Lampard as Chelsea is the club at which he became a global superstar and is considered a hero to fans at Stamford Bridge.
However, he looked on the bright side for Lampard, feeling that he can now begin a new managerial career free of the emotional ties he has in west London.
‘I really feel for Frank he’s a young, really talented manager so I wish him the best,’ said the Reds boss. ‘He will be fine, I’m sure, but it’s a hard one if it’s in your club and it was obviously Frank’s club.
‘But maybe good now his story’s over and he can go everywhere and be completely fresh and without any history.’
