Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says his 'opinion hasn't changed' over the European Super League after his club signed up for the tournament.

The German spoke out about the plan in 2019, saying he did not want to see it brought to fruition.

“I hope there will never be this Super League,” he told Bild two years ago.

“With the way the Champions League is now running, football has a really great product.

“For me, the Champions League is the Super League in which you don’t always have to play the same teams. I also don’t feel like my club has to be seeded.

“Of course, it’s economically important, but why should we create a system where Liverpool can play against Real Madrid for 10 years in a row? Who wants to see this every year?”

And of course, the Liverpool boss was quizzed on the incident tonight ahead of his side's clash with Leeds.

“My opinion didn’t change," he told on Sky Sports.

“Obviously I heard first-hand about it yesterday and when you’re trying to prepare a game, a very difficult game against Leeds United.

“Then we got some information, not a lot to be honest, most of the things you more or less can read in newspapers or wherever.

“It’s a tough one. People are not happy with it, I can understand that, but there’s not a lot more I can say about it to be honest, because we were not involved in any processes.

“Not the players, not me. We didn’t know about it. That’s the fact, the facts are out there, and we will have to wait and see how it develops.”

Liverpool fans have tonight protested outside Anfield.

And Klopp admits he can understand why supporters are unhappy at the decision.

“I don’t know exactly why the 12 clubs did it. I know some things will change in the future in football, some things have to change, that’s for sure as well.

“Where the power is, that’s not right, UEFA cannot just decide things, FIFA cannot decide things, everybody plans new competitions.
