Jurgen Klopp admits dismal Liverpool record is "absolutely not okay"

Jurgen Klopp says he "needs time to be frustrated" after Liverpool's record against the Premier League's bottom six clubs took another turn for the worse against Newcastle.

The Reds could only manage a 1-1 draw with the Magpies on Saturday afternoon as Mohamed Salah's early opener was cancelled out by Joe Willock's last-gasp strike at Anfield.

It was a result which summed up Liverpool's struggles against relegation-threatened sides this season, while also damaging their chances of Champions League qualification.

Klopp confessed the draw was a blow to his side's hopes of a top-four finish as he lamented their poor record against clubs at the other end of the table.

"Outside, people told me that against the bottom six of the table we got altogether five points, or something like that, which is absolutely obviously not okay, with all respect," said the German.

"We had in all these games, I am pretty sure, a lot of chances and we didn't use them, so we are where we are.

"Now, I need time to be frustrated, I need time to be angry and when that is over then we go again.

"But with results like this, you will not make big steps."

Klopp also highlighted the deluge of opportunities Liverpool squandered which he believes spurred Newcastle on to clinch their late equaliser.

He added: "[The result is] very tough to take but there is nobody else to blame but ourselves. When you create chances like we created today and you don't use them then you keep the game open.

"That's what we did, but again, that's football – the oldest and most important football rule [is] you better use your chances when you have them because they will come back again."

Liverpool's disappointing result leaves them four points behind the top four with just five games remaining to make up the ground.
