Jubilant Gary Lineker fails to keep calm after Leicester knock out Man Utd

Gary Lineker was unable to hide the elation, as his beloved Leicester City beat Manchester United to reach their first FA Cup semi final in a generation.

A Kelechi Iheanacho brace, either side of a Youri Tielemans strike earned the Foxes 3-1 over a disappointing United.

It’s the first time since 1982 that Leicester have managed to reach the final four and despite promising to be neutral, he let out a squeal of excitement.

At the full-time whistle, when the commentators handed back to Lineker, Alan Shearer and Dion Dublin in the gantry, the Match of the Day host tried his best to remain calm.

“As always on the BBC, we will endeavour to remain neutral, regardless of our personal allegiances,” he said.

“It will be totally inappropriate to do otherwise…Leicester though, are going to Wembley, after a 39-year wait they are going to an FA Cup semi final.”

However, after a short pause he could be heard screaming in the background.

Speaking after the victory, Foxes goal hero Iheanacho  told the BBC: "I can't express the feeling – I feel great and the whole team are happy. We were waiting for this time and we're into the FA Cup semi-final for the first time [in almost 40 years] so we're happy. We focus on the next game and hopefully we can get to the final.

"We worked really well in training to get ready for this game – tactically we worked hard. We really felt ready to go and we passed the ball very well and got in open spaces and got the runs and the goals.”

The win sets up a semi final clash with Southampton at Wembley, with Manchester City and Chelsea facing off in the other match, with Dublin cliaming nobody will want to face Brendan Rodgers' side.

Lineker also let his excitement show as he signed off the coverage on BBC One, directing viewers to watch additional interviews on the “Red Button, although tonight it should really be the Blue Button.”
