Jose Mourinho’s time at Tottenham may just be up. The 58-year-old saw his side drop more Premier League points on Sunday, falling to defeat away at West Ham. And, now, his head could roll in the aftermath of that result.

Tottenham went into the match against West Ham seeking a return to winning ways in the top flight.

However, Mourinho’s men were outplayed by David Moyes’ side – who are now up to fourth in the Premier League table.

Tottenham’s day got off to a nightmare start when, in the fifth minute, Michail Antonio struck to give West Ham the lead.

And the Hammers then doubled their lead through Jesse Lingard in the second half, with the England international continuing to shine since his loan move from Manchester United.

Tottenham were able to respond through Lucas Moura but it wasn’t enough, with Moyes side instead claiming victory.

Before the game, the Daily Mail suggested a defeat ‘could be the final nail’ in Mourinho’s coffin.

And that suggests that, now, a sacking could certainly be on the cards.

Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy doesn’t want to be hasty. He’d prefer to give Mourinho time to turn things around, especially given how he’d long coveted the Portuguese prior to his appointment.

It would be expensive, too, with Mourinho in line for a fee of £30million should Tottenham quit their relationship ahead of schedule.

But missing out on the top four and the Champions League, for the second consecutive stadium, would be catastrophic. Especially given the current financial climate.

Furthermore, this Tottenham side are poor to watch most of the time.

They started off the campaign playing electrifying football, with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min particularly impressive during the early weeks.

But they’ve since become a disjointed and turgid outfit, with their current style a far cry from what fans were used to during the Mauricio Pochettino era.

Tottenham aren’t a club that sack managers easily.

But all signs are pointing to Mourinho getting the chop, especially in the wake of yet another disappointing day at the office.

The 58-year-old has tried everything to turn things around but it doesn’t seem enough, with Spurs always seeming to take one step forwards and two back.

And if Tottenham do pull the trigger on the Mourinho era, it’ll be interesting to see who they get in as a replacement.

Levy is a huge admirer of Brendan Rodgers, who has worked wonders at Leicester by steering them to third in the Premier League table.

And Julian Nagelsmann is another who is admired by the Tottenham hierarchy, although it’s unlikely he’d leave RB Leipzig while they’re still in contention for the Bundesliga title.

Meanwhile, speaking recently, former Leeds star John Giles expressed a belief that Mourinho ‘was in trouble’.

“They are certainly in trouble, Mourinho is in trouble,” he said.

“He is getting to a similar position as Manchester United in that he’s upsetting a lot of people – Gareth Bale and Dele Alli.

“A lot of it goes back to that documentary in the summer? I watched that documentary and things happened in that documentary that should never happen in a football club.

“First of all, whatever happens in the dressing room stays in the dressing room.

“There has to be a sense of trust between the manager and the players. I was very lucky that I played in a Leeds United team for 12 years with a very good manager and a good set of lads.

“There were big rows. Especially with big Jack. Jack would be involved in nearly all of them! Don would have a go at me, he’d have a go at Norman Hunter – it never became public. That is the way that it is supposed to be.

“Next thing, you have a documentary with Daniel Levy getting involved in it; you have Mourinho getting on to Dele Alli at that particular time.”
