Newly-appointed Roma boss Jose Mourinho has his sights set on his first transfer target for the Serie A outfit, coming in the form of Brighton star Ben White.
The 'Special One' is yet to lead Roma out, with Mourinho's duties beginning at the start of next season, but he has already tipped off his future employers over former Leeds loanee White, who is the subject of interest from a number of top clubs across Europe.
White appears to be held in high regard by a number of top clubs, but Manchester United were originally thought to be leading the race for his signature after he was singled out by United skipper Harry Maguire as someone who the Red Devils should look to buy.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's side are reportedly in the market for a central defender who can play alongside Maguire for seasons to come, with the former Leicester City stalwart keen on his partner being an English-speaker to make communication easier on the pitch.
According to The Transfer Window podcast, Maguire has also pinpointed White due to already boasting Premier League experience.
Maguire's wishes could be scuppered by Mourinho, who is desperate to bring the 23-year-old to the Stadio Olimpico.
Brighton have the luxury of knowing White is tied to the Amex until 2024, with another three years left to play on his contract – their asking price could see Roma priced out.

According to The Sun, the Seagulls would be willing to part ways with one of their most prized assets for £45m.
It was White's performances on-loan at Elland Road last season that brought him to the attention of a number of European giants, Liverpool and Arsenal included.
Though Brighton sit 17th in the table, having only just had their Premier League status confirmed in the most recent match-week following Fulham's relegation, they are admired by many.
Manager Graham Potter has adopted a playing style that is easy on the eye and ensures a whole host of chances are created every game, but a mis-firing front line briefly sparked relegation fears.
