Roma boss Jose Mourinho gave Tammy Abraham three key improvement points after he was ushered out of the door at Chelsea. The England international has made a solid start to life in Italy, despite admitting to initial reservations about leaving the Premier League.
Abraham’s early performances have caught the eye of Gareth Southgate, who included him in the latest England squad.
Harry Kane’s hat-trick against Albania on Friday is set to make international opportunities up front hard to come by, but Abraham’s career is certainly getting back on track after struggling at Chelsea.
Since Thomas Tuchel was appointed as Blues boss in January, Timo Werner was generally preferred through the middle.
When transfer chief Marina Granovskaia put together a lucrative move for Romelu Lukaku during the summer, Abraham seemingly took that as his cue to leave, and new Roma boss Mourinho was happy to give him an opportunity.

Abraham said: “Jose has told me just to be a monster!
“I think one of the things he said was that I was too much of a nice player and that you have to show that aggressiveness as a striker as you’re getting older.
“It’s not always about being nice on the pitch. You need that character, you need that presence to frighten defenders and I think that’s something I’m learning and getting better at.
“It’s always tough when you move to experience a different country and different culture.

“I felt the sooner I settled in the better and started learning different types of football and different styles.
“I’ve gone to spread my wings and hopefully I can keep up the level of performances I need to stay in the team.
“Of course, the World Cup was in the back of my mind but really I just wanted to play football.
“For me, it’s still a young career and I just felt I needed to go out and play some games to improve and hit the highest levels and hopefully I can keep striving.”
Abraham seems to have put those pieces of advice into practice, with four yellow cards to go with his five goal involvements so far this campaign.
The 24-year-old has plenty of incentive to keep performance levels high, with strikers like Callum Wilson, Ollie Watkins, Patrick Bamford and Danny Ings keen to take his England spot.
When it comes to club football, a future Premier League return cannot be ruled out, and may well be on Abraham’s mind in a couple of seasons’ time.
The likes of Romelu Lukaku have fled England and returned again a stronger player, something the striker could strive to repeat under Mourinho’s guidance.
