Jorge Mendes may help Spurs with summer transfers as Mourinho faces tight budget

Super-agent Jorge Mendes could have a big hand in Tottenham’s transfer business this summer with the club looking to save cash.

Spurs have been hit extremely hard by the pandemic, and posted a £63.9million loss in their last set of accounts.

Chairman Daniel Levy has even talked about “irrecoverable” losses of £150m this season without fans inside stadiums.

And the Spurs chief is set to keep his purse string extremely tight, which will mean Jose Mourinho has to get even more creative.

Luckily the club have struck up a good relationship with reputable agent Mendes, who has navigated deals for multiple players for the club.

Former Benfica pair Carlos Vinicius and Gedson Fernandes came from Mendes’ pool of talented players.

And according to Football Insider, the club may look to Mendes to find them more stars if it means keeping costs as low as possible.

One area Tottenham are likely to improve this summer is in goal, with captain Hugo Lloris showing signs of waning at 34 years old this season.

The France international has just 12 months left on his contract, and could even be cashed in on.

And former Spurs keeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider of the situation: “Lloris is obviously going to be heavily linked with the PSG job because of the close relationship he had with Pochettino at Spurs.

“He has been back to his best this season, bar the last few games, his form has been great.

“The goalkeeping area is an area that the club will have to address soon.

“Lloris and (Joe) Hart are a few years older than Pope though so I think it is an area the club will currently be looking at. I think Nick Pope will be at the top of the list.”
