Jordan Rhodes can become a record-breaker after re-joining Huddersfield
Jordan Rhodes has rejoined Huddersfield Town after being released by Sheffield Wednesday.
The forward's four-year stay at Hillsborough was nothing short of a disaster with the 31-year-old failing to hit the heights he experienced at previous clubs.
He joined for a fee of £8million and was considered the final piece in the jigsaw as Wednesday targeted the Premier League. But he scored just 20 times in 112 games and even spent a season out on loan at Norwich.
It's easy to forget Rhodes was a serial goalscorer at Blackburn and Huddersfield. He netted 87 goals in 148 games with the Terriers and is now looking to rediscover that kind of form back at the club he left in 2012.
And the chance to continue in the second tier, as opposed to League One-bound Wednesday, means Rhodes has the chance to become a record-breaker next season.
Rhodes has 116 goals in the Championship, making him third on the all-time list.
David Nugent is top of the pile with 121, whilst former Fulham and Leeds ace Ross McCormack is second on 120.
So Rhodes needs just six more goals to take top spot next season. After signing a three-year deal the former Scotland international the striker couldn't contain his joy.
He said: "I’m delighted and chuffed! Since I knew of the interest it was a no brainer and I’m really looking forward to getting started.
“I’ve got so many great memories, there’s great people here, and just the possibility of pulling on the Town shirt again and hopefully scoring a goal or two; that filled me with so much joy in previous years.
“The possibility to have the chance to do that again is something that really drives me.”
Rhodes is one of ten players who Wednesday have let go, as they prepare for next season following their final day relegation.
