John Terry is in total agreement with his former Chelsea team-mate Cesc Fabregas over Spurs’ capture of Antonio Conte, reluctantly admitting this is an impressive coup by the Blues’ bitter rivals. The former Chelsea captain has made no secret he’s not Tottenham’s biggest fan and now they have secured the services of his old manager, who guided the Blues to the Premier League title in his first season at the helm in 2016/17.

Conte spent two years in west London where he also won the FA Cup before parting company with Chelsea after his relationship broke down with the board.

But he left behind fond memories at Stamford Bridge after showing the club how to win again following the demise of Jose Mourinho.

Fabregas, who lost his place in the side under Conte, was not afraid to admit that Tottenham had pulled off a major coup when the appointment was made official on Tuesday.

He tweeted: “I hate to say it but what an appointment by Spurs.”

Now his ex-team-mate Terry has issued a similar reaction to the announcement.

Responding to 433’s Instagram post confirming the news, Terry replied: “I hate to say it but what a signing this is.”

Despite being expelled from the starting XI for much of the 2016-17 season, Terry remained on board with Conte and his ideas as he signed off in style with another Premier League winners’ medal.

But it was not his greatest campaign on a personal level after featuring just nine times in the league and netting only once.

Since reflecting on his time under Conte, Terry has admitted he knew his Chelsea career was nearing its conclusion.

“I think there comes a time for us all where it hits you and you realise,” he said.

“In that last year under Conte at Chelsea, I was lucky because I had a really good relationship with him.

“I started the season he then changed formation, I got injured, he had a really honest conversation with me and said we were going to play three at the back. He doesn’t think I suit three at the back.”

During a recent Q&A, Fabregas named Conte as his ‘toughest coach’ he has ever had.

The Spaniard’s game time under the Italian was limited – despite several important contributions – as Conte settled on a central midfield pairing of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante.

Chelsea recorded a whopping 93-point haul that season, winning 30 of their 38 league matches.

It was Conte’s inspired tactical change to 3-4-3 during the 3-0 defeat at Arsenal that saw his Chelsea side storm their way to the title.
