Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer will have the final decision on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future as the Red Devils boss fights to turn around the club’s form, according to reports. Defeat by Leicester on Saturday was the club’s second Premier League reverse of the season.

Expectations at Old Trafford were raised over the summer due to a blockbuster £125million outlay.

The arrivals of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo were supposed to make United contenders for the title. Solskjaer could still guide his side back into form but the 4-2 reverse at the King Power Stadium will have concerned the Old Trafford hierarchy.

United twice went ahead against Leicester but a string of errors prompted a spirited comeback by the hosts.

It was the third time that Solskjaer and his players had suffered defeat in their last seven matches. They have won just twice during that run.

But the club’s board are not expected to dismiss Solskjaer any time soon, reports claim.

There is a general feeling that the Norwegian is guiding the club in the right direction and that the progress during his three years has been positive.

However, it has made clear who has the final say on whether Solskjaer remains in his job.

According to The Athletic, the more involved Glazer sibling, Joel, will make the decision should the club feel that the former striker has taken the team as far as he can.

Glazer apparently has doubts over whether Solskjaer has performed badly enough to deserve the sack.

It is believed that the Glazer family feel Solskjaer can turn around results, although that might be hard given the club’s upcoming fixtures.

There are derbies with Liverpool and Manchester City, in addition to another Premier League clash with Tottenham in the next five games. Two Champions League fixtures against Atalanta, home and away, complete that run.

Solskjaer lamented his side for their performance against Leicester and has demanded an immediate improvement.

“The goals we conceded were disappointing, the timing of them and the way they were conceded,” the 48-year-old told reporters.

“We weren’t good enough in the second balls, the 50-50s, the things that make you earn the right to win a game of football.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get it our way. It says everything when David [De Gea] was our best player and we concede four goals.

“We were not good enough – with and without the ball. You have to run, block and tackle and we didn’t do that enough. We didn’t deserve a point.

“We got the lead, Mason showed his quality and then we give them a goal. All the goals we conceded were disappointing in the way we conceded.

It wasn’t just the midfield, but we were too easy to play through. Maybe we gave too much space, but that’s the whole team. I agree we didn’t defend well enough. We just didn’t do things well enough.”
