Jimmy Bullard admits he smashed up his ex-managers car and mate was blamed

Jimmy Bullard has sensationally revealed how he smashed up one of his former manager’s cars – but that his best mate took the rap.

The former Fulham midfielder is known for his charismatic TV persona and was often seen fooling around when on the playing pitch. Though it seems he was much of a joker away from the pitch with Bullard speaking to Select Car Leasing about his relationship with motors past and present.

He went on to tell of a funny incident in which he smashed up one of his former coach's cars. He explained: “Playing for Dartford, I’ve got my best mate alongside me and we’ve got a stone-throwing competition. We’re just throwing stones at each other, being kids as you do.

“But as we’re throwing stones I’ve jumped in my motor, he’s running after me. I’ve still got my door open, I remember it to this day, sling it in reverse, Big Betts [the name for his Sierra Ghia Estate at the time], I reverse back and behind me is the gaffer [Gary Julians] and I’ve ploughed straight into him.

“You’ve got to remember this Sierra has got the old tow bar that is stuck up. The tow bar’s gone through the side passenger door. I’ve put it back in drive, and tried to drive out but forgot the tow bar is dragging the gaffer sideways.

“Mitchell Crawley, my best mate, is crying. Terry, the old physio, is in the back (saying), ‘Oh, I’ve done my neck, I’ve done my neck’."

The Sky Sports presenter continued: “Mitchell used to get blamed for everything. The gaffer’s undone the window (and said), ‘Come and see me next Thursday. I suppose it’s to do with you Mitch’. Mitchell got all the blame. I’ve had a load of mishaps in motors and smashing the gaffer’s motor up, that’s one.”

Bullard retired from playing in 2012 after 312 league appearances. He opened his playing career with Dartford, before making the move to Gravesend & Northfleet, before finding his feet with Premier League side West Ham.

The former midfielder also had spells at Wigan Athletic, Hull City, and Ipswich Town. He is now a presenter on Saturday morning show Soccer AM, where he is known for his cheeky charm and for showing off brilliant football skills.
