Jesse Lingard’s previous views on Arsenal and playing at the Emirates Stadium could dash any hopes Gunners’ fans have of seeing the midfielder move to their club. After enduring a painful season at Manchester United which saw him fail to be named in a single matchday squad, Lingard joined West Ham on loan in January.

He has been revitalised at the London Stadium, scoring eight goals and notching up four assists in nine Premier League games for the Hammers.

After scoring twice on his debut against Aston Villa, Lingard repeated that feat when Leicester visited David Moyes’ side on Sunday.

First, he swept the ball past Kasper Schmeichel from the edge of the box after Vladimir Coufal’s cut back just before the half-hour mark.

The on the stroke of half-time, Lingard doubled his tally for the afternoon when Jarrod Bowen beat the offside trap to set the midfielder up to tap into an empty net.

Lingard’s fine afternoon continued after the break when he was involved in Bowen’s strike, before seeing an assist for an Issa Diop goal chalked off for offside.

The 28-year-old’s display is just the latest in what has been a magnificent start to his West Ham career, with his form even seeing him earn an England recall.

His performances have also seen him get linked with a move away from parent club United, as he enters the final year of his contract with no clear path to a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s line-up.

One of the clubs believed to be interested in Lingard is Arsenal, who will be desperate for a creative midfielder when Martin Odegaard returns to Real Madrid.

Though the permanent signing of Odegaard is a priority for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, Lingard has caught the eye of the Spaniard.

But a look into Lingard’s past matches and performances against the Gunners may not make fans happy with his links to a summer move.

The midfielder has scored five goals and made two assists in nine games across his career against Arsenal.

One of those goals came in United’s 3-1 FA Cup win over the Gunners in January 2019, when Lingard put the Red Devils 2-0 up with a precise finish after Romelu Lukaku’s pass.

He celebrated that goal, the fourth of his career against the Gunners, by doing a moonwalk across the pitch in front of the Arsenal fans.

While that on its own may be enough to infuriate some Arsenal supporters, Lingard then added to their anger on Instagram.

Following the game, Lingard posted a photo on himself celebrating his goal during his dance, with his location setting raising eyebrows.

Rather than setting the location as the Emirates Stadium on the post, Lingard instead opted to name it his “Dancefloor”, not something which will endear him to Arsenal fans amid the links over a move.
