Jesse Lingard has torn into Manchester United's training facilities weeks after Cristiano Ronaldo complained about them during his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

The Nottingham Forest forward, who left United in the summer, insisted the club's "out of date" training complex was an embarrassment compared to what their Premier League rivals had.

"They're so behind with everything," Lingard said during an episode of the The Diary of a CEO Podcast. "You see [Manchester] City's facilities, Tottenham's facilities when we go there with England. People are miles ahead [of United]."

In November, Ronaldo, who returned to Old Trafford in 2021 after 12 years away, said the training ground hadn't changed at all since he left, adding that "progress is zero" since Sir Alex Ferguson resigned in 2013.

"Nothing changed, surprisingly. Not only the pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym. Even the kitchen, the chefs, whom I appreciate. They stopped in time. It surprised me a lot," the Portugal star told Morgan.

"I thought I would see other things, technologies, and infrastructure. Unfortunately, we see a lot of what I used to see at 21, 22, and 23 years old. It really surprised me."

When asked about Ronaldo's comments, Lingard said: "[United] are one of the biggest clubs in the world, you want the best food and a swimming pool and a jacuzzi and a sauna, but modernise it.

"You see like City's facilities and you think 'get up to date, catch up, because you're way behind at the moment'."

Lingard spent over two decades at United, initially in the academy before breaking into the first team in 2015. The 30-year-old made over 230 appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals – including the winner in the 2016 FA Cup final.
