Javier Hernandez revealed what he believes to be the key to Sir Alex Ferguson’s unprecedented success at Manchester United.

The LA Galaxy star had been making waves at Guadalajara in his native Mexico when United’s then chief scout Jim Lawlor travelled to watch him play in October 2009 and recommended the club sign the striker.

Hernandez’s move would be completed the following summer, and he would impress fans on his debut by netting in the club’s victory over Chelsea in the 2010 Community Shield.

During a spell at Old Trafford that spanned six seasons, Chicharito won two Premier League titles and in his maiden campaign was part of the squad that narrowly missed out on Champions League success against a Lionel Messi-inspired Barcelona at Wembley.

Speaking on his time at the club, Hernandez echoed the sentiment made by many former United stars that Sir Alex’s greatest attribute as a coach was his man management skills.

‘I always said that what i learned most from him was how he treated his players and to achieve that he had to know his players.’ Hernandez told Paramount+.

‘In order to manage a team as large as the ones I was in, you have to understand that not all of them are the same and not all of them work in the same way. But the management he had when I was there was spectacular.

‘And that’s why we won all the leagues we won.

‘We were close to a Champions League and also won other tournaments. He knew his players authentically, not only as footballers, he knew us deeply, and our families too.

‘That a person like Sir Alex Ferguson, with so much time in football, such a winner, and being the best in history, is so human and has time to get to know everyone, is what I learned the most from him.’

After falling out of favour at the club following Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, Hernandez would spend a season on loan at Real Madrid alongside fellow former United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

From there, the Mexico all-time record international goalscorer would join Bayern Leverkusen, being named in the Bunesliga’s team of the season for 2015-16 before returning to the Premier League to join West Ham in 2017.

After a brief spell with Sevilla, the 35-year-old joined LA Galaxy in the MLS, becoming the team’s Designated Player in the process.

The striker also came within touching distance of winning the Champions League in his debut season with the club
