Jamie O’Hara says ‘Spurs have been on the phone’ after slamming current regime

Jamie O'Hara has revealed his former club Tottenham have expressed their discontent over his recent slamming of their playing squad amid a torrid run of form in the Premier League.

The former midfielder, who is a fan of the club that he played for between 2003 and 2011, is now an outspoken pundit who blasted the current status of Spurs this week.

Having lashed out at the quality of their squad and stubbornness of the manager, the 36-year-old claims to have been contacted by officials – who weren't best pleased.

O'Hara wrote on Twitter: "Let’s just say Spurs have been on the phone and there not happy about what I’ve had to say."

Having said on Sky Sports News: "This season they have gone backwards. The players ain't been good enough, they're miles off it.

"They've lost a bit of belief, Conte is stubborn with his formation and his tactics but come on, look at the squad of players. (Japhet) Tanganga, Eric Dier, (Ryan) Sessegnon, Matt Doherty.

"Good players but we want to kick on. Look at Arsenal, we pipped them to fourth spot last season but we’ve gone backwards while they’ve kicked on. Conte will walk in the end. He needs top class centre-halves, top class wing-backs.

"He’s brought in (Ivan) Perisic, he’s 33. (Ryan) Sessegnon’s not good enough. They’ve brought in Djed Spence, who he doesn’t trust, then got Doherty and (Emerson) Royal to choose from.

"Come on, what chance have you got? We had Kyle Walker playing for Tottenham, top player. We are nowhere near it. We need top players."

Spurs lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa having drawn at Brentford following the World Cup break – after losing four of their previous eight beforehand.

That form saw the club slip five points behind fourth place Manchester United after 17 fixture, with Antonio Conte's future in doubt.

He has told Sky Sports: "Then there is this project and I signed a contract with this club and I have to accept this project and try to build and help the club with this project."
