Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher aimed a tongue-in-cheek jab at Gary Neville after the Reds beat Manchester United on Thursday night. Liverpool came away from Old Trafford as 4-2 winners in a massive win for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool have a realistic chance of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League this season.
The Reds have endured a torrid campaign so far, but appear to have rallied late to give themselves a chance.
Their thrilling win over United at Old Trafford left them four points behind Chelsea with a game in hand.
United rested players for Tuesday’s game against Leicester in order to name a full strength side against Liverpool, but were second-best against the defeated champions.
And after the game, Carragher aimed a cheeky jab at his Sky Sports co-pundit.
The Reds hero dug up one of Neville’s old tweets from January, in which he mocked Liverpool likely missing out on the Champions League.
Neville wrote: “Football on Thursday Nights aint that bad” along with an emoji of a man holding up his hands.
And Carragher chose his moment to reply, and wrote: “There’s always a tweet! #MANLIV”
Liverpool hero Carragher went on to praise Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had a sublime game at Old Trafford.
The right-back was at his best and set up both of Roberto Firmino’s goals and sent a message to England boss Gareth Southage over the upcoming European Championships.
Carragher wrote: “Huge win for @LFC & great to see Bobby back in the goals!
“But MOM was @TrentAA whose passing was outstanding.
“It’s unique that a fullback is the most creative player in any football team, but that’s what he is for this team!”
Firmino has struggled for goals this season, and scored his seventh and eighth goals of the campaign at Old Trafford.
And Klopp was full of praise for the forward after the game, saying: “[Roberto Firmino] was very helpful and these kind of things are really important.
“That’s what we needed to stay in the race.”
