Jamie Carragher mocks Gary Neville live on Sky Sports as Salford win EFL Trophy

Gary Neville and his fellow Salford City owners are celebrating their first ever trophy after coming out on top in Saturday’s postponed 2020 EFL Trophy final – but Jamie Carragher still couldn’t resist poking fun at his co-pundit live on Sky Sports.

Manchester United’s famous Class of 92 academy graduates – consisting of Neville and his brother Phil, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes – took over at the non-league club in 2014 and have since guided them up into League Two.

They were originally due to contest last year’s EFL Trophy Final against Portsmouth last April, only for the coronavirus pandemic to put the Wembley showpiece on hold.

EFL chiefs were only able to rearrange the fixture for Saturday, 24 hours before this year’s final also goes ahead at Wembley.

And after neither side could break the deadlock over 120 minutes at the national stadium, Salford held their nerve in the lottery of penalties to ensure they claimed the club’s first ever piece of silverware.

It would have been a proud moment for Neville and co, who took over at the club while they resided in the seventh tier of English football.

However, when informed of Neville’s success while commentating on Everton and Burnley’s Premier League clash, Carragher couldn’t help but tease his co-pundit live on Sky Sports.
