Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher was accused of being “a grass” while discussing Sky Sports’ upcoming schedule with Gary Neville. The punditry duo have been back on screens together after the World Cup, and are a key part of the broadcaster’s Premier League coverage amid a busy festive schedule.
Neville and Carragher, along with host Kelly Cates, were discussing next week’s games live on TV as Sky are set to show games on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Following this weekend, Liverpool will travel to Brentford on Monday, while Sky are showing table-toppers Arsenal at home to Newcastle the following day.
Neville is down to work for the first two games, but will be absent on Wednesday and Thursday as Sky are showing Tottenham’s trip to Crystal Palace before a blockbuster Chelsea vs Manchester City clash on Thursday. Neville explained why he would not be covering the games on Wednesday and Thursday: “I’m off skiing so you’ve got Jamie for the two games on Wednesday and Thursday.”
Then Carragher made a jibe back at Neville, claiming that he left his employer in the lurch when making his holiday plans. “Gary normally does the bigger games in terms of commentary but he’s going skiing because he booked his holidays without telling Sky,” the ex-Liverpool man replied.
Then Cates called out Carragher for his comment: “No one likes a grass,” before Carragher explained that Neville was initially scheduled to work the entire week. “When I got the email, you were down to do those games,” Carragher claimed.
Sky will first show Mikel Arteta’s outfit for their trip to Brighton on Saturday evening, and then on Super Sunday will broadcast Spurs taking on Aston Villa and Chelsea’s visit to Nottingham Forest.

Neville was also told off during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Leicester on Friday, after he began praising Reds defender Trent Alexander-Arnold. The England man, who has been questioned for his defensive ability on several occasions this season, had some rare praise from Neville for his defending despite Jurgen Klopp’s defence showing their fragility in the game.
During Sky’s post-game coverage, Neville explained how Alexander-Arnold got his body shape correct as he dealt with the threat of Harvey Barnes, as he demonstrated to Carragher and Cates by backing up onto the Anfield pitch. He was told to move back off the pitch however by ground staff, before the host said: “Stop going on the pitch now.”
Neville replied: “I’m getting told off here,” before Carragher had to remind the former United defender that he was on a Premier League pitch, and that his imitation of Alexander-Arnold’s defensive stance looked like it belonged more on a dance floor than the Anfield turf.
