James Milner enjoys Cheltenham winner he backed because of horse’s perfect name
Liverpool midfielder James Milner revealed the hilarious reason behind picking a winning horse at Cheltenham.
The Englishman put a few quid on the winning racer for the Final Handicap Hurdle at the historic sporting event.
With B J Cooper riding the horse and Paul Nolan training it, the three-metre victory was seen as a long shot at 12-1.
And Liverpool’s star admitted that he was attracted by the name of the horse – Mrs Milner.
Writing on his Twitter page, he wrote: “To save me replying to everyone who’s WhatsApp’d me…
“YES – I backed it.
“NO – it’s not my horse.”
“YES – the wife is demanding all the winnings.”
Receiving more than 23,000 likes within two hours of posting, the Anfield faithfully were left in stitches at Milner’s Cheltenham admission.
“MIlner’s are natural winners,” one supporter said.
Another commented: “You couldn’t make this s*** up.”
While a third mage a cheeky reference to the Englishman’s Twitter activity, with: “No doubt you'll have a few Ribena's to celebrate.”
And a fourth added: “You going to stock up on Ribena and Yorkshire tea with the winnings?”
Milner himself tasted victory recently, seeing off RB Leipzig for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals before beating Wolves in the Premier League.
It comes as Milner was making waves on Twitter the same day because of a post by Barcelona.
They re-posted an incident between the midfielder and Lionel Messi during his time with Manchester City.

Facing the Spanish giants at the Nou Camp in 2015, the Argentine was put under pressure by the then-winger in his own half.
But he managed to push it through Milner’s legs as the midfielder was sliding in for the tackle.
Fans, though, were less than impressed with the post as the Nou Camp giants had been dumped out of the Champions League a week earlier by PSG.
