James Maddison sends fans nuts after scoring ‘thunderbolt’ against Liverpool
Leicester City fans went bonkers on social media following James Maddison's wonder-strike against Liverpool in the EFL Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night.
The Reds advanced to the semi final of the competition following a tense penalty shootout at Anfield after drawing 3-3 in normal time.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp decided to give a number of his senior players the night off amid a hectic week dogged by a Covid-19 outbreak in the camp, but paid for it almost immediately when Leicester striker Jamie Vardy grabbed two early goals.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled one back for the home side, but Maddison soon restored Leicester's two-goal cushion with what fans all over Twitter could only describe as a "thunderbolt".
After ricocheting his way past Oxlade-Chamberlain in midfield, the 25-year-old let fly from the 30 yards, striking the ball on the bounce and smashing it beyond the reach of young Liverpool keeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
"Maddison what a thunderbolt," one fan wrote.
"Holy s*** Maddison, what a thunderbolt," another said.
Another fan wrote: "What a finish from Maddison! Always capable of thunderbolt from range that boy!"
Diogo Jota grabbed a second goal for Liverpool after the restart before a last-minute Takumi Minamino equaliser sent the game to penalties – with Jota scoring the decisive spot kick.

Liverpool fans were unhappy after Klopp made 10 changes to the side that faced Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at the weekend, with only 19-year-old Tyler Morton surviving the reshuffle – particularly as his opposite number Rodgers had more-or-less opted for his strongest available side.
Maddison's form for Leicester has been up and down over the past couple of seasons, but he's been a near ever-present in Rodgers' side so far this campaign.
The England international has scored 32 times for the Foxes since joining from Norwich City in 2018 for a reported £20 million.
